Classifications of Play – The USSSA Baseball program shall offer four (4) classifications of play: Major, AAA, AA & A. The criteria for classifying teams shall be the overall offensive and defensive strength and experience of the team.
State Directors shall have sole authority to classify teams within their respective state and the authority to classify and / or re-classify any team during the current season, except when team classification has been assigned by the USSSA Baseball National Committee.
The "Major" classification is designed for the most competitive, "select" teams. Players on these teams may be recruited from any state. This is our most talented and highly skilled division, and provides outstanding teams, who take great pride in competing day in and day out against the best competition available.
The "AAA" classification is designed for those "select" or "recruited" or "frozen" teams which cannot attain qualification at the Major level. If USSSA finds AAA teams consistently winning within the AAA class, we reserve the right (Rule 3.03) to elevate such teams to Major. The AAA classification is intended to be the "middle ground" for travel type teams in USSSA.
The "AA" classification is designed for those "select" or "recruited" or "frozen" teams which cannot attain qualification at the AAA level. If USSSA finds AA teams consistently winning within the AA class, we reserve the right (Rule 3.03) to elevate such teams to AAA.
The "A" is a Rec classification is designed for those "recreation level" teams which are bound by geographic league boundaries and restricted rosters.
